Recently, a man from New Jersey and two other men from Russia were indicted by a Federal Grand Jury for hacking into Heartland Payments Systems, a credit card processing company. This seems to be happening more and more all the time. In fact, two major credit card processing companies have been hacked into in the last year alone.
It is more important now than ever to take the steps to become PCI compliant and to do credit card processing through companies that are PCI compliant as well. If a hacker gets into a merchants’ system or into the processors system then it can cause customers a lot of problems. Not to mention the headaches and fines a merchant could be facing. When choosing a merchant account provider always check to see if they are PCI compliant. When it comes to credit card fraud, an ounce of prevention sure beats a pound of pain.
